Key tasks and further details about the research project

Launched in November 2017, the study was designed on a ‘modular’ basis, in order to optimise the involvement and participation of partners and provide flexibility for interested stakeholders to engage with all or part of the work.

Key Task 1: Desk research (Completed March 2019)

1.1 Surveyed existing work on science literacy (SL) delivery methods/approaches which provided data conducive to impact evaluation and assessed their strengths, weaknesses and usability.

1.2 Undertook a review of existing reviews of SL delivery methods

1.3 Arrived at summaries of a wide range of delivery methods/approaches and their proven impact.

1.4 Identified gaps in impact assessment and in publications describing these.

The Deliverable outputs of this phase were:

D1.1 Resource discovery of the 5 Groups/45 mechanisms - Download.

D1.2 Working papers, bibliographies and reviews of the 7 Groups/45 Methods

Key Task 2: Promotion, adaptation and/or design of impact evaluation methodologies

D2.1 Profiles of innovative initiatives were prepared, with links to their good practice in impact assessment and indications of additional examples were provided within the Summary Results spreadsheets.

Key Task 3: Consolidation of the results and tooling for future implementation

The results of Key Tasks 1 and 2 were synthesised and analysed to produce a number of papers and broad summaries giving the evidence of impact of the selected SL delivery methods.

A toolkit of existing toolkits and a short final summary of the general outcomes of the work and a model toolkit that could be used as a starting point for developing and executing an assessment plan by organizations interested in science literacy projects was prepared.

The Deliverable outputs of this phase were:

D3.1 Summarised results of gaps in impact assessment methodologies, strengths and weaknesses, directions for future research, and challenges.

D3.2 Open online toolkit of existing toolkits for SL impact evaluation.

D3.3 A summary of general outcomes.

D3.4 A model toolkit for developing and executing an impact assessment plan.

Key Task 4: Publicity and dissemination (ongoing)

Throughout the activity, there were ongoing release of progress reports and promotion of results to communities, institutions and agencies of all kinds, locally and globally.
