Main Objectives
The Science Cultural Centre (better known as C3 for its acronym in Spanish) is located in Buenos Aires, Argentina and opened in November 2015 as a result of public policies fully supported by the National Ministry for Science and Technology. The Science Cultural Centre is a place where science and culture interact to surprise the community through a wide range of exhibitions, workshops, conferences and shows. Using different artistic and scientific expressions, C3 works to uncover the hidden science in our daily life.
Description of work
The Centre hosts a permanent interactive exhibition named “A place for doubts” (the name plays with a popular phrase in Spanish, i.e., “there is no place for doubts") with three halls devoted to the general topics of time, information and chance. In addition, the Centre has been working on thematic seasons which aim to share a scientific point of view of areas such as literature, sound and fashion, among others. They offer school visits during weekdays and are open for the general public during weekends and holidays.
Results
- The Centre hosted more than 100.000 visitors in 2016, as well as 14.000 students from primary and high schools.
- The staff includes 60 facilitators from the University of Buenos Aires helping visitors. The centre has also been advised and supported by 115 national and international specialists in scientific, artistic and cultural areas participated in conferences and workshops.
- In 2016 more than 50 different workshops for children, families, young and adults were organised.
Resources used or generated
The Centre is developing its own curriculum of science literacy activities for different visitors and will shortly start their first audience studies. They have signed agreements with universities and artistic/scientific associations to develop projects together. In addition, national and international sponsors have supported their activities.
